In the flow of its strong tradition,
the University of Bologna is one of the most important Italian research universities. The
Department of Chemical, Mining and Environmental Engineering has a
relevant research experience in the field of transport phenomena,
process development and unit operations, with a staff of 25 professors
and 10 assistant professors. A specific competence is present since
about 20 years in the field of process safety and risk analysis, in
which a research group is involved in national and international
research projects committed by public bodies and private companies. The
Department joined the CONPRICI consortium since its fundation in 2005,
and will act as a Research Unit of CONPRICI in the Integ-Risk project.

During more than 780 years of academic excellence, the University has attracted students from all over the world and encouraged its own professors to go abroad to gain experience in the teaching methods used in other countries. The thirteen Faculties at the University have reformulated their teaching strategies according to the requirements set out in the new reform, offering over ninety three-year degree courses and the same amount of higher and specialization degree courses as well as many Masters Degree courses. Research is carried out in every field of study and the fact that much of this work has been published in the most important scientific journals and publications testifies to its value. The internationalisation of the University can be confirmed by the numerous research project.
The Department of Chemical Engineering joined the CONPRICI consortium since its foundation and will acts as a Research Unit of CONPRICI in the Integ-Risk project.

Politecnico di Milano - CMIC Dpt
| |
|
The Politecnico di Milano is nowadays organised in 17 departments and a
network of 9 Schools of Engineering, Architecture and Industrial Design
spread over 7 campuses over the Lombardy region with a central
administration and management. The 9 schools are devoted to education
whereas the 17 departments are devoted to research. The educational
policy of the Politecnico di Milano consists in offering different
curricula tailored to the needs of its territory, which is considered
one of most developed industrial areas in Europe. The number of
students enrolled in all campuses is approximately 40,000, which makes
the Politecnico di Milano the largest institution in Italy for
Engineering, Architecture and Industrial Design.

Dipartimento Ingegneria Chimica Materiali e Ambiente - Sapienza Universitá di Roma
| |
|
The Department of Chemical Engineering, Materials and Environment was established in 1983, deriving from the aggregation of the previous Institutes of Chemistry, Applied and Industrial Chemistry, Extractive Mining and Metallurgy. The Department permanent research staff consists of about 20 full professors, 30 associate professors and 30 researchers, thus resulting one of the largest of the “La Sapienza” University of Rome.
The Department joined the CONPRICI consortium since its foundation and will act as a Research Unit of CONPRICI in the Integ-Risk project.
UROM teaching, research and consulting activities cover a great number of aspects of Chemical, Materials and Environmental Engineering, and a specific research group is active in the field of risk assessment, loss prevention and safety promotion since more than 15 years. This group consists of about 10 people, with a steady core from UROM research staff, plus some grant holders and private consultants, plus some students working on their thesis.

CNR Istituto di Ricerche sulla Combustione
| |
|
The Institute for Research on Combustion (IRC) was founded in 1968 and it is part of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). The research activity carried out by IRC has been always devoted both to increase the knowledge of fundamental combustion phenomena and to address specific researches of practical interest in combustion and safety science. The staff of IRC is made up of 50 permanent units, of whom 20 are researchers with different cultural provenience (chemical, mechanical, aeronautical and electronic engineers, chemists and physicists).
The research activities of IRC are organized in five main areas, namely: Chemistry and physics of combustion, Technologies and combustion processes with high efficiency and low environmental impact, Combustion and gasification of fossil and alternative fuels, Catalytic materials and processes for energy and environment, Environment reclamation and prevention of risks from the use of fuels and dangerous materials.

The fields of research of the Institute of Aerospace Sytems are flight mechanics and control , unmanned aircraft systems, airborne geosciences and space technology. The main focus of the work group Unmanned Aircraft Systems is adaptive flight control and navigation for unmanned aircraft systems as well as their scientific application. The research of flight mechanics and control also comprises nonlionear simulation of various aircraft configurations. The work group Airborne Geosciences uses the helicopter-borne sonde Helipod and the the meteorological Mini-UAV M²AV to perform meteorological field campeigns. These high-resolution turbulence measurement devices are currently being upgraded and will also be available for cooperation with other scientists. The work group Space Technology deals with trajectory mechanics of satellites on Earth orbits. The group focuses on the following fields: precise calculation of satellite trajectories, prediction of the trajectory and reentry of small satellites, simulation of the origin and distribution of space debris, calculation of the density of satellites, upper rocket stages and debris parts in the perigee.
